FAQs
How early should I get a design?
There is typically a three month ( or more) wait time for services. Calling to start your design a full year (or as close to it as possible) ahead of your install will ensure you aren’t rushed through the process and that you have time to find the right contractor to do the job. Not just the first one available. This can be done closer to install date for DIY’ers or those that already have an installer lined up.
How long does it take you to complete a design?
On average 4-6 weeks is the quickest turnaround. You must be prepared to respond quickly and be involved in the process.
How much will it cost to get a design?
Design costs will range from $1500-3000 for a full property with 3D imaging with smaller projects inlcuding planting plans starting at $350. Pricing is customized to the size and detail needed so very difficult to give pricing without context about your yard and requriements for it. If you click on the ‘Get in touch’ button you can send the info I need to give you a price for your job.
I’ve already hired contractors. Can you work with them?
You bet! I’ll refer you to a trusted contractor I’ve worked with before or work with a new one if you already have someone booked.
Do you offer a payment plan?
I do. There is deposit requested to book a consult. The remainder of the design is usually billed the month the proofs are sent. If you prefer that broken down into smaller payments we can certainly do that!
Do you do consultations only?
I do. The $350 price point would be for a consult only and would be able to provide you with suggestions for you yard in list form or if it is a small enough area it could cover a drawing.
What is the difference between a rendering and a blueprint?
A rendering will help to visualize the layout but a blueprint is the key to implementing the vision.
Do I have to have a plan before I reach out to you?
No, but a budget would help! I’ll ask all the questions necessary to kick start the design process. I really don’t want to design something you’ll never be able to afford so please take the time to work out what you would realistically like to spend on the project.
How much does landscaping cost?
For new homes we estimate 10-15% of the house price for the cost of landscaping. If you spent 600k on your home and want to hire a landscaper to install the front and backyard landscaping then you can expect to pay 60k to hire someone.
For DIY homeowners this is a tricky one to assess. It might depend on the hardscaping (decks, patios, pergolas) you need or want in the yard since that is what costs the most. For materials you could budget 30-40% less to do it yourself depending on the job.
When should I get quotes for the landscaping?
I advise people to get quotes 6-9 months before they want the install to start. Waiting until spring puts you in a very long queue of people doing the same. This is also the time when landscapers are starting to work on projects and probably have the least amount of time to do quotes.
I found some inspiration online. Can you replicate it?
I love seeing people’s inspiration and working with it while designing their yard. I also refer back to budgets and knowing that our planting zone is unique and means that we can’t grow things that a lot of other climates are able to. Know that I will always do my best to help you get the yard you want but I’ll be sure we work within the parameters of our zone and your budget too!
